Help with the braille'n speak...

Yes, I did say Braille'n speak, because we country folk use them. lol
Anyway, I have a scholar with a 2004 revision date. It uses double talk. I had several files, and the other day, I opened one up to find that all the characters had been turned into graphics, greek letters, and other random things.
Has this happened to anyone um, anyone who uses a bns? And am I just S O L or can my files be fixed somehow?

Have you tried the recover file command? This has never happened to me, but that's the only thing I can think of.

I also have a Braille 'n Speak Scholar and have a similar problem: It replaced my Help file with content from another file that I have. It's really weird, because I can still use it, but the Help file is the only thing that I know of that's screwed up. The recover command doesn't work for me either. The only solution I can think of to fix such problems is to do a cold reset. Of course that would mean having to get all your much-wanted/needed files out of there first, but that's the only sure way I would think should work. Not sure what I'm going to do for mine, since I learned that that WinDisk program doesn't work on my computer. I have Windows XP, but it turns out it only works on Windows 98 and 2000 or something, which really stinks since I have some of my journal in the BNS and no disk drive. Oh well. But yeah. Try saving your files to something else if you can and then do a cold reset and hopefully that will fix things for you.

In order to preserve your files, you would have to initiate the cold reset, answering no to all the prompts. Thus a cold reset is pointless in this situation.

Actually, I just now did a cold reset, answering yes to the "initialize file system" prompt, and now I have my Help file back. *smile* I lost my journal, but I really had no other choice as I don't have any way of saving it to somewhere else and don't have the time to copy it by hand, but I already have some written parts of my life missing anyway due to previous technology mess-ups, so what can I do. *smile* Anyway, so yeah cold reset worked fine for me. *smile*

well, guess I'm S O L then. lol. I seriously hate the BNS

Yep a cold reset is the only way to probably resolve this issue.

It seems to me that at least in my experience with the BNS, the file system as prone to all kinds of weird corruptions after a few years. I just think the maxed the capability of the system, and this is its way of saying "no more."
